First Draft of European Sport Coaching Framework Unveiled in Germany

CoachLearn partners have just delivered the second multiplier event of the Erasmus+ project at Trainerakademie, Köln, Germany.  The purpose of this milestone event, which took place during 12th-14th October 2016, was to give European stakeholders the opportunity to consult on the first draft of the European Sport Coaching Framework.

The event coincided with the International Council for Coaching Excellence’s European Coaching Council Executive meeting, and Coaches Association workgroup, and also the closing conference of the SCORE project (Strengthening Coaching with the Objective to Raise Equality).  Over 60 delegates attended from 14 countries.

The event was attended by the ICCE president John Bales and European Commission Sport Unit Policy Officer Paola Ottonello who both addressed the event and underlined the importance of coach education and development in Europe.

Project Manager, Sergio Lara-Bercial gave delegates an introduction to the ESCF, and an overview of the Coaching System Mapping Tool used.  A session was delivered by Kirsi Hamalainen (Haaga-Helia University, Finland) and Jan Minkhorst (NOC*NSF) to showcase the  Recognised Prior Learning and Work-Based Experience tool.  Finally, Julian North (Leeds Beckett University), led a workshop where the issue of Competence Development was debated towards the development of another tool in this area in the near future.

The next phase of the project will involve the development of the second consultation draft of the ESCF, the construction of further support and development tools, and the production of the final version of the ESCF to be launched in summer 2017.

Project CoachLearn coordinator, Sergio Lara-Bercial (Leeds Beckett University, UK) said: ‘We are extremely pleased with the outcomes of the second multiplier event in Cologne. We received very positive and thoughtful feedback regarding the first draft of the ESCF and the first batch of tools, and we now have the information we needed to go and develop them further. We look forward to this work and to the closing conference next year in Leeds’
